Stuttering (Fluency)

Fluency refers to the smooth, effortless flow of speech. Some children experience disruptions such as repetitions, blocks, or prolongations—commonly known as stuttering. These behaviours can vary in frequency and severity and may impact a child’s confidence in speaking.

At The Speech Collab., our Speech Pathologists are trained in evidence-based fluency treatment, including the Lidcombe Program. This internationally recognised program is specifically designed for young children who stutter and involves close collaboration between the clinician and parent. Parents are supported to deliver structured, positive feedback at home, while clinicians guide progress and make adjustments to ensure the best possible outcomes.

Fluency support may include:

  • Assessment of stuttering behaviours and their impact
  • Individualised therapy plans based on age and severity
  • Parent coaching and home-based practice (Lidcombe Program)
  • Strategies to promote smooth, relaxed speech
  • Confidence-building and communication support

Early intervention is highly effective for fluency difficulties, and our goal is to help children develop clear, confident, and comfortable communication skills.
